AC/DC – Chequers Nightclub, Sydney Australia – on this day, December 31st 1973, AC/DC took to the stage in what is cited as being their first ever concert. The small nightclub venue was host to the first AC/DC lineup which comprised Dave Evans on lead vocals, Malcolm Young on lead/rhythm guitar, Angus Young on lead/rhythm guitar, Larry Van Kriedt and Colin Burgess on drums.

The gig took place shortly after the band’s formation by Malcolm Young, and just after the band was named. The band wore jeans and t-shirts since they hadn’t begun to experiment with different outfits. This came the following year when the band tried the glam rock look and Angus experimented with outfits which included “Zorro”, “Superman” and a gorilla before settling with a schoolboy outfit, which has remained his signature look ever since.

The set included various covers, included a 30-minute solo and lasted for 5 hours.

  1. School Days
  2. Honky Tonk Women
  3. Get Back
